Hong Kong permanent-residence pathways closed to new applications.
The temporary permanent-residence pathways for eligible Hong Kong residents stopped accepting new applications on August 31, 2026. IRCC continues to process applications received on or before the deadline. A related open-work-permit public policy remains available to certain eligible applicants while their permanent-residence application is being processed.
Can you continue working after applying to extend a work permit?
A person who applies to extend an eligible work permit before the existing permit expires may, in qualifying circumstances, remain in Canada and continue working under the conditions authorized by Canadian immigration law while a decision is pending.
Apply Before Expiry
The extension application should be submitted while the existing status remains valid.

Retain the application confirmation, payment receipt and copy of the submitted forms.
