Canada Immigration: New Express Entry, BC PNP and Worker Updates
This edition reviews a busy week in Canadian immigration, including three Express Entry rounds, a new British Columbia invitation round, added study flexibility for eligible work-permit holders, study-permit financial preparation and a current Greece residence-by-investment option.
IRCC issued 2,826 invitations in three consecutive rounds.
Between September 14 and 16, IRCC held Provincial Nominee Program, Canadian Experience Class and senior-manager category rounds. The sequence highlights the continuing importance of Canadian experience, provincial nomination and category-specific eligibility.

BC PNP invited 33 candidates through a rural and remote health initiative.
On September 17, the BC Provincial Nominee Program issued 33 invitations under its Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative. The minimum score was 60.

Eligible work-permit holders may study for up to six months without a study permit.
IRCC announced a temporary measure for eligible work-permit holders already in Canada. Those notified by IRCC may study for up to six months, or until their work permit expires—whichever comes first—without applying for a study permit. The measure is in effect until December 31, 2027.
Short-Term Study
The flexibility is intended for studies lasting no more than six months.

IRCC is notifying eligible work-permit holders; workers should confirm that the measure applies to them.
Important Limit
Full-time studies still require a study permit, and this measure is not a new route to enter Canada.
Strong study-permit files must explain both available funds and their source.
For applications submitted on or after September 1, 2026, a single applicant studying outside Quebec must show at least C$23,448 for first-year living expenses, in addition to tuition and transportation. IRCC may assess the amount, source and continuing availability of funds.
First-Year Capacity
Evidence should cover tuition, living expenses and transportation, without relying on work in Canada.
Banking History
IRCC lists six months of bank statements, including the filing month or previous month, as one common form of evidence.
Source of Funds
Employment, sponsor relationships, business records, transfers and other sources should be documented coherently.
Greece documents a five-year investor residence route based on qualifying tourist accommodation agreements.
Greece’s official public-services registry describes an investor residence option based on a qualifying timeshare or long-term tourist accommodation agreement of at least five years. The stated minimum value is €800,000 in specified high-demand areas and certain islands, and €400,000 in other regions. The residence permit is valid for five years, but does not itself grant access to employment.
